All the features of a registered user

The archive currently contains 46 of the 20th century's greatest thinkers, creators and achievers telling their life stories in 5068 stories totalling over 271 hours of footage.

Each speaker in the archive also has comprehensive lists of related resources; such as external links, illustrations (extra movies and photographs relating to the story in question), bibliographies, filmographies and internal links to other stories in the archive that explore similar themes.

All users of Peoples Archive have complete access to all of this content.

As a registered user you can also personalise your use of Peoples Archive by:

  • Bookmarks - storing a bookmark to help you keep track of how far through a speaker's life story you are. Your bookmark is available at http://www.peoplesarchive.com/bookmark/.
  • Favourites - marking stories as a favourite to allow you convenient access to the stories you enjoy the most. You can view and manage your favourites from http://www.peoplesarchive.com/myarchive/.
  • Playlists - compiling lists of stories and adding your own notes to describe them. As playlists can be private or public these are great for sharing stories with friends, colleagues or students. Playlists are accessed here: http://www.peoplesarchive.com/playlists/.

More information on the features of registered vs free users can be found in our Guests, Registrants and Subscribers guide in the guides section of the site.

The stories on Peoples Archive are made available in several different formats. As a subscriber you get access to the 3 highest quality video formats and the high quality audio only format. These higher quality formats not only have larger display sizes but also have higher quality picture and sound than the lower quality formats made available to guest and registered users.

More information on the different formats and examples of each can be found in our Sample Movies guide in the guides section of the site.

Early access to new speakers with our "Subscriber Only Preview" feature

When we add new speakers to Peoples Archive they are placed in a "Subscriber Only Preview" status for at least a month. During this time, only subscribers will be able to view the movies, read the transcripts or see the related resources. Guests and registered users will be able to see that we have a new speaker available, but will be unable to explore their life story.

More information on the "Subscriber Only Preview" feature can be found in the Guests, Registrants and Subscribers gudie in the guides section of ths site.

No restrictions on movie viewings

Guests and registered users without subscriptions may occasionally find themselves unable to view stories on Peoples Archive due to excessive load on our servers. We track the number of concurrent movie views and when this reaches a certain level we start to temporarily block movie access to our free users in order to ensure that our subscribers will still have access as our bandwidth reaches its limits.

More information on our movie restriction policy can be found in our Guests, Registrants and Subscribers guide in the guides section of the site.
