Peoples Archive presents Quentin Blake's Life Story

Thursday, 8 March 2007

Press Release: 8 March 2007

From today, watch Quentin Blake's life story for free on Peoples Archive, the online video on-demand archive dedicated to collecting for posterity the life stories of some of the world's greatest thinkers, creators and achievers.

This is a rare opportunity to delve into the mind of this great illustrator and understand the motivations and struggles behind his celebrated career. The format of these videos is not that of a traditional interview but more that of a one on one encounter between Quentin Blake and the viewer. Filmed in his studio in 2006, with Ghislaine Kenyon as his listener, Quentin Blake opens up and talks freely for over 4 hours about his life and work, his influences and collaborations, notably with Roald Dahl. He also looks back on his career as a whole, the choices he made over the years, and the associations and organisations he supports today.

Tamsin Newmark, producer of the project says:

“It is wonderful to welcome Quentin Blake - one of the world’s most prominent illustrators - to Peoples Archive. Quentin Blake’s work is instantly recognizable worldwide, and anyone who has experienced the joys of his illustrations, or who wishes to educate themselves about this talented man, will benefit enormously from listening to him talking in depth about his life and work.”

The material has been broken down into 65 stories, all titled and presented chronologically. They are accompanied by word accurate transcripts and additional resources including: a complete bibliography, external links to relevant websites as well as some illustrations including “The BFG” and the cover of “Clown”. In addition, a 10-minute video is also presented, which takes us inside his studio and where he shows us how his characters are brought to life.

Quentin Blake’s life story is available to view free on the Peoples Archive website and can also be purchased on DVD-ROM. Downloads for iPods and other mobile devices will soon be offered on the site as well as through the Google Video store.

Peoples Archive currently contains 34 life stories, totalling over 200 hours of video divided into 4261 segments. The Archive is grouped into seven sections: Arts, Film, Literature, Masters, Medicine, Politics and Science. Future additions to the Archive include the highly acclaimed theatre director, Sir Peter Hall, and the Nobel prize winning pharmacologist, Sir James Black.
