Press Release: 10 December 2004

Peoples Archive launch the stories of W.D. Snodgrass
Peoples Archive, the only on-line video on-demand archive of autobiographical material, is delighted to announce the launch of the stories of Poet W. D. Snodgrass.

The service, called "brilliant" by The Sunday Times, presents in depth video autobiographies, ranging in length from 5 to 15 hours. Peoples Archive began with a focus on science, and in 2002 broadened to include film. The stories of W. D. Snodgrass are the first in the Literature section of the Archive. Future plans include filming with poets Donald Hall and Richard Wilbur.

Tamara Tracz, producer of the project says:

"Filming a poet of the calibre of W. D. Snodgrass was an amazing privilege. To hear him talk about his family and childhood added a powerful extra dimension to my understanding of his work, and his talk of studying with Robert Lowell, Robert Frost and Randall Jarrell was fascinating. Snodgrass's perceptive and thoughtful reflection on his life and work, as well as his powerful readings of his own poems, will be a real asset to poets and students of poetry. We look forward to enlarging this part of the archive."

W. D. Snodgrass has five hours of material on Peoples Archive presented in 100 stories, all titled and presented chronologically. Each story is accompanied by a word accurate transcript. Outside resources are listed including relevant websites, a complete bibliography with links to Amazon for those who want to buy the books, an updated section listing readings and events and links to any of the over 2000 stories on the Archive that complement each story. It is possible to search the archive for any particular subject, to set bookmarks and make playlists.

Peoples Archive is available by subscription. To find out more- and see a free trailer, go to http://www.peoplesarchive.com/

Peoples Archive is an online video-on-demand service. High-quality footage is shot on location in digital video format with subsequent editing being kept to a minimum. Access to the site is to be sold on a subscription-only basis with annual cost of £380 for institutions and £34 for individual subscribers. Collections of interviews are also to be sold in DVD ROM format.

Stories that complement each other are linked, and Peoples Archive also offers regularly updated links to relevant books, Web sites and other resources.
